Town house in Roermond
What we found
The house was built in 1893, with the tall rooms and plasterwork of the period. Years of office use had lowered the ceilings and covered the floors. Under the suspended ceilings, the plasterwork was almost complete.
Ceiling
Ceiling
A plasterer from Maastricht spent three months on the cornices and ceiling roses. Missing parts were run again in lime, the same way as in 1893.
Joinery
Joinery
The new piece is deliberately plain and dark: green-stained oak, from floor to cornice. That way the old ceiling keeps the leading role and the workspace disappears into the wall.
Floor
Floor
The pine floor could not be saved. It is now smoked oak in herringbone, in the size of the original boards, oiled by hand.
