Daalwerk works from a converted barn in Schin op Geul. We are three permanent people and a circle of local craftspeople: plasterers, carpenters, smiths and stonemasons we have been building with for years.

- What is there comes first
- An old wall, a beam, a south-facing window. We only start drawing once we know what is already good.
- Material from the region
- Marl, clay, lime, oak and bluestone. They belong to the landscape and they age well.
- Light before colour
- We never choose a colour in the studio. Always in the room itself, at different times of day.
- One team from sketch to key
- Whoever draws the design is also on site. That way nothing gets lost along the way.

Maartje Coumans
Architect, founder
Studied architecture in Delft, then worked in Antwerp on the restoration of farmsteads and rectories. Started Daalwerk in the barn where the studio still is.
Joep Ramakers
Interior architect
Grew up in a furniture workshop in Venlo. Draws the joinery, the kitchens and the details you touch every day.
Lieke Hermans
Project lead, construction
Keeps the build together: planning, contractors and the questions that only come up on site. On location every week.
Where we work
We work in South and Central Limburg: the hill country, Maastricht, Roermond and the Maasplassen lakes. Just across the border, in Belgian Limburg and around Aachen, too.
